The Britax Advocate™ CS convertible car seat is now available for purchase at retailers. The Advocate CS debuts Britax’s patented Side Impact Cushion™ Technology, making it the safest car seat in the Britax product line.
According to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, approximately one in four of all motor vehicle crashes that involve children occurs from the side, and these crashes result in a significantly higher injury rate than front or rear crashes. During a side impact crash, the side impact cushions on the Advocate CS compress to absorb the incoming crash forces and safely expel the air through strategically placed vents. WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Eddie Bauer Soothe & Sway Play Yards
Units: About 71,000 in the United States and about 5,600 in Canada
Distributor: Dorel Juvenile Group Inc., of Columbus, Ind.
Hazard: The play yard’s rocking bassinet attachment can tilt even when secured by straps in the non-rocking mode or can stay tilted without returning to a level sleeping surface while in the rocking mode, causing an infant to roll to the corner or side of the bassinet. The infant can then become wedged in the corner or pressed against the side or bottom of the bassinet, posing a risk of suffocation or positional asphyxiation.

May 6th WPIX morning news interviewed Andrew Rabinowitz founder of R babyfoundation.org. He told the story of his daughter’s death and how it could have been avoided (full story below). His daughter had a viral infection which had it been diagnosed she would have probably survived. It is important that parents realize how necessary it is that in an emergency situation they take the child to a hospital where a pediatric doctor is present day and night. New parents should speak to their pediatrician about this.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Starting on February 10, 2009, certain children’s toys and child care articles can no longer be sold, offered for sale, manufactured or imported for sale in the United States if they contain more than 0.1% of specified phthalates. The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York ruled last week that this prohibition applies regardless of when the covered products were made.
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) staff has previously addressed a number of questions concerning applicability of phthalate limits. CPSC today is issuing more guidance in draft form (pdf) for public comment. The guidance is intended to help manufacturers, importers, retailers and consumers determine what products are covered by the phthalate limits.
